Christmas Island Order Restored
There have been reports from Christmas Island asylum seekers, indicated that at least 150 asylum seekers have broken out of the detention centre. It is believed up to 20 people may have been taken to the high security management unit, Red Compound and some are handcuffed inside the detention centre.
Yesterday Malcolm Jones from Immigration Department came out and said “It’s unfortunate that the extreme measures were taken place but order had to be stored”.
“We know that everyone is getting quite frustrated and annoyed and we apologized for that but laws are laws and we need to follow through with the policy put forward in Australia”.
“We are doing our best to process all refugees’ applications. But when these things happen, it make it’s harder and also slows down the process”.
